A Few Cleaning Tips

I’m always looking to make things easier or cheaper.  So today, being in the (almost) winter sweep cleaning of my apartment before the big Christmas-Tree-Putter-Upper day, I have been procrastinating and found some really great quick clean methods as well as some create your own cleaners.

Non-Toxic Germ Killing Cleaner

“To help kill bacteria such as E. Coli on fruits and vegetables, add a quarter cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide to a sink full of cold water. immerse, rinse with cold water and drain. By killing bacteria this will also help keep fruit and vegetables fresher for longer. You can also use a spray bottle containing a 50/50 mix of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water – just spray and rinse.” (Quote from: Green Living Tips)

Labels That Won’t Come Off

Take your hair dryer, aim it on the label, and as you blow dry it, take some sort of scraper and slide it under the label. It will come off easily!

Simple Room Sprays

In a small (3 – 4oz) mister bottle, combine water and about 10 drops of peppermint essential oil.  Then, shake and spray.

Herbal Citrust Carpet Deodorizer

1 box baking soda (or about 2 cups)
4 drops of lavender essential oil
4 drops of sweet orange essential oil
2 drops of lemon essential oil

Either add the drops right to the box, or use a shaker.  Sprinkle on top of carpet. Wait 5-10 minutes. Vacuum. Breathe deeply!

Tip: This deodorizer works great in trash cans, too. Just sprinkle some in the bottom of the can the next time you change the liner.

Vaccum Filter Scent

Put 3 drops of lavender essential oil on the filter in your vacuum cleaner.  Then, every time you vacuum, you get a fresh scent.  Do this every time you clean/change the filter.
